The GCW Tour, Spain & Morocco: Never Trust a One Hundred Year Old Restaurant Recommendation

I am sad to report that it is possible to get bad food in Barcelona.

On Wednesday night we went to a restaurant called Els Quatre Gats, or The 4 Cats (Catalan slang for "a few crazy people"). The restaurant was a modernist hangout at the turn of the century, and the patrons included a teenaged Picasso who had his first one-man show here in 1900.

That was enough to interest me. To its credit, the place still looks like it's 1900, and I'm not sure whether it's the Catalan Art Museum hanging the original art works and The 4 Cats the copies, or vice versa. It's a very cool space.

But do yourself a favor: if you're in the neighborhood, stop in for a coffee, then leave. The food, particularly at the prices they charge, isn't worth bothering with.
