The GCW Tour, Spain & Morocco: La Revetlla de Sant Joan

Wednesday in Barcelona is St. Joan's Day, and the night before is La Revetlla de St. Joan. It's sort of a more restrained version of Mardi Gras combined with a family picnic, and a lot of the Fourth of July thrown in for good measure. Various parts of Barcelona celebrate in different ways, but Barceloneta seems to lead the charge.

There were more people on the beach at 1:00 am than a lot of beaches see at noon on a sunny summer day. It was crazy. And while the niece and I were too late for most of the bonfires, we did see a lot of fireworks.

Which was fun at midnight when we were walking the promenade, but a lot less fun at 3:00 am when we were trying to sleep.

And apparently, we weren't the only ones with that problem. The next day when we took the hop on hop off bus tour past the area there was an apartment building with a dozen or so balconies all of which had messages like "No more bottle rockets" and "We need to get some sleep" painted on sheets that were hanging from the railings.
