The GCW Tour, Spain & Morocco: Sevillian Wildlife

And now for my Marlon Perkins impersonation...

In our first night in Seville we saw, or at least found evidence of, a number of different forms of wildlife.

First up, the niece, with her well-functioning eyeballs, was the first to see the bat looping around the square in front of the cathedral. She had to point it out three times before I saw it, but I can confirm that it was in fact a bat. We didn't see many bugs in Barcelona -- the condo doesn't even have screens on the windows -- but the presence of the bat suggests things may be different here.

The next thing we found were countless geckos which seem to like getting up in the light fixtures or on the walls behind them, presumably for the additional heat. They're fast little suckers, and don't seem to like it when you stop and stare at them. They're also distracting, as we got lost staring up at the walls looking for more.

Seville also seems to have a local wild dog. The one we saw looked something like a Pekinese, small, white, and fluffy, and was basically going from table to table and restaurant to restaurant begging for scraps.

Finally, while we didn't actually see them, we did receive audio evidence that a herd of the nocturnal student tourist was camped out very nearby, likely in the room right next to ours. Between the talking and the laughing and the banging that was going on when I fell asleep and still going on when I woke at 6:00, it's a wonder I slept at all. But it's 8:30 now and all is quiet, so either the herd is sleeping or they're running wild through the city.
