Some Days Take Forever

Today was infusion day, and it was the slowest infusion day in (my) recorded history. Infusion day typically involves four separate appointments: blood draw, PA consult, Avastin infusion, hydration. But while they're scheduled across four hours, it doesn't usually take that long. I start in the lab at the given time, then just move to the various locations and typically get in within a few minutes of arriving, even if I'm arriving hours early. And the Avastin and hydration are usually given at the same time.

Not today.

Today nothing started early, a few things started late, and parallel processing disappeared along the way. Thus, my normal departure of 11:00 turned into some time after 2:00.

Besides being slow, there wasn't much noteworthy about today's visit. The PA and I shared some laughs about the mysterious port that failed then worked -- and I should note that it worked fine this morning -- but by this morning most of the more painful side effects had already begun to recede so there wasn't much for her to look at. Test results were generally okay, liver function and tumor markers a little higher than before, but since the scan of a few weeks back was pretty good, she wasn't too worried about it.

In short, it was mostly a day of sitting around waiting.
