The GCW Tour, Spain & Morocco: Dave Tours the Castle of Montjuic

The Castle of Montjuic sits at the top of a hill overlooking Barcelona's harbor. At one time or another, it's been the city's primary defense mechanism, a prison, and where they held public executions. The most famous of these came back when Catalan attempted to declare it's independence from Spain. Spain was less then impressed, imprisoned the Catalan leader, and then executed him.

Surrounding the castle was also the location of a road race, back when they did that sort of thing (i.e., before drivers and fans started dying insignificant numbers during the race). The museum part of the castle had a nice display of information relating to the race, as well as some very nice displays on the history of the building.

Dave was impressed...

Dave found his peeps on the
hike to the castle.
The entrance to the castle, with moat that's now a garden.

Lots of places to hide from your attackers --
or other tourists.

The battlements overlooking the harbor.
Big guns.

Statues of defenders.
Commemorating the road race.

Some very old rocks...
...And grave stones.

A view of the quad where I'm pretty sure
the executions where held.
The highest wall.

Please exit past the snack bar.
