There are just five days before the next leg of the GCW Tour kicks off and I'm getting a lot of questions about how I'm doing. It thus seemed to make sense to provide a quick summary...
Whatever weirdness was going on my mouth has thankfully gone away. I'm back to being able to talk, eat and swallow without any pain. This is a very good thing, as one of the things I hear most about from people who have been to Barcelona is the food.
The superficial thrombowhatever on my leg seems to be more or less gone. A bit of the bruising remains, but the pain is essentially gone. I can again wear shoes that tie without limping across the floor, which will be very helpful for walking. I won't be wearing my boots on this trip, but I have some hiking tennis shoes which should do me pretty well for the bulk of the trip.
The debilitating pain in my feet is gone, but they're still in pretty bad shape. I've still got blisters, my toes still vibrate, and my feet are still swollen, but I've been dealing with that for months. I'll need to be a little careful walking, and may have to take some afternoon breaks, but since Spain shuts down for siestas anyway that may not be so bad.
And not to put too fine a point on it, but I'll be keeping an eye open for the nearest bathroom pretty much everywhere I go.
But all in all, I think I'm in reasonably good shape for a cancer patient in treatment (if half-hearted treatment), so I should be reasonably okay for the trip.
I'm certainly a lot less worried about it now, than I was a week ago. Besides, I'd hate to disappoint Dave (though I think he may be confusing Spain with Mexico).
