Today we got to make our first landing. Quickly, here's how the process works:
The 200 passengers onboard have been assigned to eight boat groups. When you reach a landing spot, the crew goes ashore and set things up, then they start ferrying passengers over by group. Each group takes about as long to get processed as it takes a person to get dressed in all their gear, so you just wait until the number before yours is called then start layering up. The first group to go ashore on any giving landing will be the group that went second on the prior landing, and then they just go in numerical order. However, about halfway through the process they'll take a break as the regulations limit the number of people on a given spot at a given time to 100. Once you maked it to land you hang out for as long as you like, and then take the boat back.
Oh yeah: they scan your boarding pass/charge card/room key both coming and going so they know where everyone is.
All things considered, they're pretty good at moving people around without it ever feeling too much like a goat rodeo or an overwhelming mob.
Today's landing was on Penguin Island...
