The GCW Tour, Buenos Aires & Antarctica: Nice Surprises

Today at lunch time I found myself wandering around a relatively non-touristy section of Buenos Aires. I was hungry, but didn't see many options other than this hole in the wall place that didn't have many customers. But given the lack of options I went with it and ordered a club sandwich. Look what they brought me:

Is that not a great looking sandwich? And you can't tell from the picture, but the chicken was freshly cooked, the bacon was some sort of pancetta-like thing, and it was warm and creamy and basically fabulous. The orange juice, by the way, was fresh squeezed.

I had a similar experience yesteday on my way to the botanical park. I saw a sign for a juice bar, so stopped for a beverage and an excuse to sit down. I was the only one there, too, aside from two clerks and the owners. He was from Denmark and she was Venezualan, and they'd lived in Buenos Aires for two years. This was their second juice bar. I have no idea what I ordered -- the "Super" -- but the juice was quite lovely, and the owners were both very nice.

I have no idea how the Buenos Aires economy is doing, and what rents in the various districts run, but I hope these shops I found can make it. They certainly deserve to.
