The GCW Tour, Buenos Aires & Antarctica: If They Could Travel Together, My Current Self Would Annoy the Crap Out of My Past Self

And frankly, my current self isn't too pleased with my current self, either.

As the XS can attest, I'm a fan of walking tours. They're always the first thing I flag in a guidebook, and the place I start when I'm a tourist. I used to be able to burn through four of five such tours in a day. I must've dragged the poor XS down ten or twenty miles a day when we were in Istanbul.

Yeah, not so much anymore.

I found five or six decent walking tours for Buenos Aires, and in my first full day I managed to complete two. I'm dragging my butt down the street, and pretty much everyone is passing me. Every block or so I'm looking for a bench or a low wall where I can rest, and I keep making my way back to the hotel so I can take a nap.

This is not how travel is supposed to be. I'm supposed to be tearing up the miles so I can see as much of the city as possible in the few days I'm here.

Yeah, that's not going to happen. I dare say there will be a lot I miss on this visit, especially in that the thing that became obvious today is Buenos Aires sprawls. This is not one of those cities where you can find everything interesting in a ten block radius. You've got to cover some distance to see all that Buenos Aires has to offer.

And that, I'm sad to say, is getting harder and harder to do.

But I did see some nice spots today. Here are a few examples...

I'm not sure who puts a house on top of an apartment
building, but I want one.

Speaking of houses, the Buenos Aires Opera House
The subway station next to Plaza San Martin

Plaza San Martin
Definitely the right way to get to the open air art market

Poorly composed (the photo, not the painting) open air art
Probably one of a zillion such markers in Buenos Aires
The Little (Slightly Terrifying) Mermaid
I wish I knew what the trenches were for.
A narrow street...
...and a flying mattress
