Of course, the fact that we spent the night not in Budapest proper, but at a hotel at the airport probably had a lot to do with it, as does the very Seattle-like drizzle. Things should change when we move to the place we're staying for the week later today.
It occurred to me that this might explain a lot of Tom Friedman's recent books, however. From the window of an airport hotel room, the world does indeed look the same no matter where you go.
