The GCW Tour, the Frozen Cruise: Skutustadagigar

After Godafoss, our next stop was Skutustadagigar -- otherwise known in English (we were told) as "black fly lake." What made this spot interesting is the way the lakes were formed. Like most everything in Iceland, it came from a volcanic eruption, but in this case the little craters aren't the result of eruptions but rather the explosions that result when lava hits underground water or wetlands. 

And when it's not overrun by little black flies, it's a very pretty spot...
