The GCW Tour, A Few Bits of the UK and Ireland: Welcome to Glasgow

When we got to Glasgow it was pouring.

Then we had the challenge with the rental car in that I while I had rented a Ford Focus (or equivalent) I allowed myself to get talked into the upgrade to a Vauxhall something or rather which, once we'd marched through the rain and claimed the car, turned out to be -- forgive the language -- a worthless piece of shit. My 1980 Toyota Tercel had a better transmission, so I left the boys hiding under a cover with our bags, and went back to get my Ford. But they didn't seem to have my Ford, so instead they gave me an Audi A3.

My favorite part of the whole transaction? Being asked, "Can you drive an automatic?"

Whatever. We had our car, but by the time we got to the hotel it was about 9:00, and we still had to find dinner. You would think that would be easy, but you would be wrong. You would be wrong because...

A) we were staying in the city center, so the focus of most places in the area was the nine-to-fiver...

B) it was Sunday night at 9:00-something pm...

C) those places that were open were restaurant/bars, and after 8:00 pm wouldn't seat anyone under 18...

D) one of the boys must eat gluten free...

E) I was exhausted and moving very slow, but also traveling with two teenage boys who, by their nature as teenage boys, are constitutionally prohibited from initiating conversation with any hostess or waitress (or other subset of the category "adult"), leaving the sorting out of where we ate entirely in my very slow-moving hands...

F) And though it was still pouring, for some reason I elected not to wear any of my rain gear...

But we eventually found a place to eat -- and then we went back to the hotel and I went to sleep.

Speaking of which...
