I of course saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens this weekend. The story was something of an original episodes smoothie, but the execution was good enough to make one forget about the sterile, bloated weirdness of the prequels. So I'm definitely glad I lived long enough to see it.
I actually thought it was going to be a stretch to be around for opening night, but it turned out to be pretty easy. I didn't even need a twitter campaign and some Disney execs to bring the movie to my house. Thus, I won't hazard a guess as to which will turn out to be stronger -- cancer or Disney's profit motive -- vis-a-vis Episode VIII. I certainly hope I'll be around for that one, too, but in my situation I'm trying not to make too many plans for two years from now.
Cancer sort of forces you to adjust the timelines against which you plan and live your life.
