Yesterday, Sib2, his wife, and I were talking about my pointless accomplishments list. Seeing that Star Wars: The Force Awakens had recently been struck, but that a lot of the other items are still pending, they were looking for a way to help me get some more things moved to the done column.
The one that jumped out was Number 11: Run a 5K so I can say I've done it.
It turns out that Mercer Island, which is where they live, holds a 5K/10K/Half Marathon in March and, even better, the purpose of the race is to raise funds for colon cancer prevention. How weird is that?
I figured I couldn't find a more appropriate event, so despite the fact that I'm in far from tip top shape, I've gone ahead and registered and formed a team: Dave and the GCW Minions. I'm thinking I ought to be able to tape Dave to my shirt or something so he can actually participate in the race.
I'm only doing the 5K. A Google search tells me I should be able to finish is thirty minutes or less, but I'm guessing I won't get anywhere close to thirty minutes. But, oh well, as long as I finish I can say I've done it.
So if you'll be in Seattle on Sunday, March 20, and are interested in doing a 5K run/walk, you're more than welcome to join my team. If you register before December 31, it's only $20. (They will, of course, accept donations for more.) And I'm figuring that being on the same team doesn't necessarily mean going at the same pace, so if you're actually a runner you needn't feel obligated to crawl along with me.
You can find more information about the event here: http://mercerislandhalf.com/
And you can access the Dave and the GCW Minions homepage here: https://secure.getmeregistered.com/homepage.php?id=123089
I guess I should break out my Couch to 5K app again...
Very good John...tell out of shape Steve!! He should join your team!
