The GCW Tour, Vietnam: Me and Hugh Hefner

If you've seen the Top Gear Vietnam special you're likely aware that one of the things Vietnam is known for is fast, inexpensive, custom tailoring. The city of Hoi An is especially famous for this, but it turns out there are plenty of places in Hue where you can get made to measure clothes.

One of Sib2's goals for the trip was to get an electric blue suit made similar to the one Jeremy got on Top Gear. So on our first day in Hue, after spending a few hours sorting out the disaster that was the state of our possessions post motorcycle riding, we set out to find a tailor.

Sadly -- or happily, depending on your perspective -- I've already got a closet full of suits I don't wear, so I didn't really need another. But while we were looking through the shop we found I suddenly had an inspiration: pajama pants.

I love pajama pants, but the problem is that it's generally impossible to find ones that fit. I wind up looking ridiculous, with the pants stopping inches above my ankles. And when I look to my future wardrobe, there is going to come a time when I'm homebound and only entertaining hospice nurses -- and who wants to do that wearing pajama pants that don't hit the floor?

Problem solved. I am now the proud owner of five pairs of phenomenal pajama pants that gently brush the floor when I'm barefoot:

And while Sib2 eventually decided that an electric blue leisure suit didn't really have a lot of utility, he did get an awfully nice black linen jacket made and a tropical shirt.

But as you can see, I got the electric blue covered with one of my pajama pants.

  1. I have the exact oppsite problem. ALL pants are several inches too long. Even in petite they're a coulle inches too long.

  3. I'm sure they'd be happy to make you some short ones. You can find them at www.giahuysilk.com.
