The GCW Tour, Spain & Morocco: Finished with Barcelona

Today was our last day as tourists in Barcelona. Tomorrow we leave for Pamplona, San Fermin and the bulls, returning late Thursday for a fairly early flight home Friday. Hard to believe we're down to our last week.

Although, it's probably for the best. Today we spent the morning at the Picasso Museum, which was interesting but not hugely revolutionary, then spent the rest of the day shopping so the niece could pick up her remaining souvenirs. Everything would've been fine if only we hadn't wound up in a part of town with lots of art galleries.

Sure enough, I bought a painting. My normal $20 - $30 outlay for refrigerator magnets has thus climbed into the stratosphere on this trip with the acquisition of a (fake) skull, two fish candle holders, a rug, and now a painting -- along with ten or so magnets. If I don't get home soon, I'm going to wind up spending more on crap -- nice crap, but crap nonetheless -- purchased during the trip than on the trip itself.

Ah well. As long as the stuff actually winds up in my possession when I get back to Seattle, I'll be fine. The problem with souvenirs like rugs and paintings is that you can't really carry them home yourself. You're stuck relying on the vendor to treat you square and ship what you bought.

We'll see.

But for those interested in such things, here's a picture of my new painting...

I wouldn't say it's a Picasso, but given what we saw in the museum this morning calling something a "Picasso" isn't always saying much. I find it interesting how, once a painter becomes famous, everything they ever touched, no matter how iffy, becomes  a masterpiece
